This is a one year science course for 8th grade students. The goal of this course is to introduce concepts in physical science, as well as the nature of scientific method of investigation as outlined in the California Academic and Performance Standards. The content areas to be covered are as follows:
Scientific investigation and experimentation, the Earth, solar system, moon and stars, history of Earth and human impacts on Earth, waves & electromagnetic radiation, forces & motion, energy, natural selection, adaptation, inheritance & variation of traits, evidence of common ancestry and diversity, optimizing the design solution through engineering and developing possible solutions.
ALMOST all of my assignments can be redone for a better grade. I take off 10% from the grade (10% of full worth of assignment). This means you can still get an A- on that assignment! I do this because I believe that the process needs as much attention as the final outcome. If you get a low grade on an assignment and just accept that then you are not learning what you did wrong and fixing it ;-)
All late or re-do assignments must have the form completely filled out and attached with parent signature. I will not accept the assignment without the form COMPLETELY filled out.
Assignments for this class are posted in Aeries!
If you are absent please go on Aeries the SAME DAY you are absent and download and complete the assignment if you can. This will help you keep up in class. Turn in the assignment with the turn-in slip into the blue stackable on the right side of the class...make sure you have you full name and period along with the assignment number and title. If you have questions or want something graded and put in Aeries quickly please bring in someone from one of my classes to help grade your work then place it in the blue stackable. I WILL NOT answer any questions during class time. Please come in before school with questions!
